48 X 48″ ACRYLIC ON WOOD, 2009
There is always a voice on our shoulder guiding us to the right decisions. It calms us in times of chaos, comforts us in moments of despair, and most importantly, it never lets us forget our dreams. It senses the slow creep of depression and complacency as the pressures of life builds up, and it becomes cautious…
The road ahead is long and arduous, and our conscious is aware. There will be many faces along the way, some friends and some enemies. The friends help line the path to success, while the enemies play the background, snickering and whispering plots of sabotage. We must rely on our internal voice to decipher between the two. Respect your instincts, your conscious has formed them well.
Always sleep with one eye open, as these times we’re in demand around the clock surveillance; there are thieves in the night. The landscape is a metaphor for society; barren, lifeless and unforgiving. Twisted trees tie knots in the air, casting shadows on copper sand. But through it all there is path, a beautiful way out of the madness.
It is our conscious that never lets us lose sight of where we want to go. When everything you have ever wanted is within your grasp, it reminds us to reach with all of our might. “We may not be able to see the destination, but as long as we can see the next 200 ft. in front of us and believe that we will get there, it will happen.”
Good things are on the horizon, but proceed with caution. Listen to the voice coming from your shoulder…
